Hey gang! It’s California weekend and while my truck hauler is loading up in Sandusky, Ohio to take that long trip out west, I’m back in North Carolina trying to get things organized for Jeffrey’s upcoming test in his Limited Late Model. We’ll be testing him during my weekends off after California. Stay tuned after Atlanta to see how it goes. Rene and I are in sunny California and the weather is nice. We don’t get on the track until Thursday and I have all day today, which is Wednesday, to have fun and make-up for no anniversary getaway. We took a trip to HOLLYWOOD! We took the hike up the mountain to get an up-close look at the Hollywood sign. Pretty cool when you think of the history and all the celebrities that have seen that same view through the years. We drove down Rodeo Drive, noticed I said drove down not shopped on.

It’s Thursday and the truck handled decent in practice, but we were unable to find any speed. I attended the autograph session later that night at “Fontana Race Fest” the track hosted for the fans. Another great turn out and a lot of neat things the track had going on to entertain all.

Friday morning and I go out 39th to qualify. We made some major changes before qualifying, so I didn’t push the truck and settled on knowing we were going to make the show regardless of the speed. Not knowing what it was going to do, it was safe to play my cards that way and adjust during the race.

It’s time for the race and the plan is to keep the truck comfortable and try to gain some more speed. We never got the truck where it needed to be competitively, but the team worked hard and I did my best to keep it heading in the right direction. Not the best finishes, but we have 2 trucks in 1 piece and that says a lot to make it through Daytona with no battle scars. I’ve not had a lot of experience at all in the trucks and the best way to learn is by completing all the laps, so that’s a plus.

I’ll check back with you after Atlanta and let you know what’s been going on during the down time. Until then, I’m heading to Ohio to prepare the Atlanta truck and hopefully turn things around for a better showing.

Next stop, Atlanta Motorspeedway…………..
