Hey fans!  Been trying to get this entry done before now, but as you can tell, that didn’t happen.  Been busy with Martinsville race, doing a little turkey hunting, shooting some commercials and keeping up with the kids.  Let me start with Martinsville….Our practices went pretty well.  The truck was very comfortable; just not enough speed as we would like to have had.  Qualified OK, not the best starting position, but could have been worse.  My truck was a little tight at the start of the race, but the guys made some adjustments that helped it tremendously.  We were running times as fast as the leaders, but a little to late to move up in the field.  All in all, it was a good run for us.  Even though we ran out of time, we can use the information we improved with and be more prepared at the next short track.

I managed to squeeze in some turkey hunting before shooting a commercial for Mecklenburg County Public Services.  I’m doing a little acting that will be aired on our local Charlotte WTVI on May 14 and I think again during Cup’s Charlotte race weekend.  It’s called “The Astonishing Race” with The Mecklenburgers.  Check it out if you’re in town. Let me get back to my true hobby, hunting.  I hunted near Wilmington, NC with a good friend from Bass Pro Shops.  We hunted this past Saturday, but no turkey eating at my house this week.  The wind and rain made the turkeys difficult to hunt. We heard some gobblers, males, but saw only hens, females.  Not that I think y’all wouldn’t know the difference, but just in case.

The best thing about the bad weather was it rained out Jeffrey’s race and they rescheduled for Sunday.  This allowed me enough time to make the 7 1/2 hour drive to VA.  He practiced great…..ran smooth, consistent lines.  Qualifying rolled around, I thought top 15 would be great; boy did he surprise us all with a 5th place start.  So then I’m thinking, this may get pretty interesting starting that far up front, but he held his own and brought home a 6th place finish. I was very impressed with the fact he practiced on this track one time and this was his first race, not to mention he just started racing on pavement this year, coming from dirt racing.  A little surprised if you can tell.

Got to go for now.  Next stop, Gateway……See ya at the track!
